The Dutch province of North-Holland, especially the rural north of it, is a region that is increasingly coming to stand in the spotlight of tourism. Until a few years ago people only knew rural North-Holland as the plain they passed on their way to Texel Island, but now they know that this region has much to offer, just like that beautiful island.
The economy of rural North-Holland rests on several pillars. Most importantly, the Dutch Navy, with its home base in Den Helder, but even agriculture is still great here. The rural North is one of the most importent flower bulb areas in the world. The brilliant flower bulb fields can be admired from the higher dunes along the coast. It is therefore no surprise that the other pillar of the economy is tourism.
Tourists in North-Holland can fully enjoy what flower bulbs have to offer. The coastal plain changes every spring in a large carpet of flowers. You can see those colourful fields from the road, but you can also walk across the field. If you do that, you find yourself lost in a sea of color. This truly is an unforgettable experience.
Do you want to know more about the North Holland flower bulbs and their eventful history? Then pay a visit to Fluwel’s Tulpenland, a theme park about tulips. Please feel free to bring your children, they will have a great day with us for sure. Until October, we celebrate spring in Tulpenland. The floral splendour of the spring is preserved here a summer time long!
