The Dutch tulip fields are a unique attraction for tourists from all over the world. The different flower bulb areas in the Netherlands are overrun by tourists during spring. This also applies to the Zijpe, where Fluwel’s Tulpenland is located. The popularity of the Zijpe is not surprising when you see what this area has tourists to offer.
The Zijpe is a large plain that lies directly on the sea. A narrow edge of dunes separates the Zijpe from the North Sea. In the polder, there are some small villages. Along the dunes you will find the most tulip fields. It is a beautiful sight: the dry dunes, the shiny tulips before them, the blue of the ditches and canals ... No wonder that tourists like to spend their holidays here!
Dutch tulip fields in bloom
Do you want to see the tulip fields in bloom? The best time for this special happening is the spring. From the end of March until the early summer there are many colours to see, but April is usually the best time. The fresh breeze from the sea, the bright spring light and the endless fields full of blooming tulips make an ideal combination. The flat Zijpe is ideal for cycling. In May, there is still much to see.
The tulip fields are best, but other flower bulbs bloom in Zijpe as well. Therefore, you can enjoy this spectucalar phenomenon for a fairly long period. Climb the dunes or the viewpoint in Sint-Maartensbrug and let yourself surprise by the colourful patchwork beneath you. A day of exploring the Dutch tulip fields is not complete without a trip to the beach and a meal in the nice restaurants in the coastal villages.
